PRESS RELEASE: Children team up with Olympic hockey star Helen Richardson at A-Star Sports’ big day
Chester got its own taste of Olympic glory last week (Oct 26) when hockey legend and 2012 Olympic bronze medallist Helen Richardson took time out to join local children at a holiday club run by A-Star Sports, one of the UK’s most dynamic sports coaching companies.
The world class player joined in games of hockey, volleyball, dodgeball and handball over fun-packed morning and afternoon sessions attended by scores of sports-mad youngsters and sports coaches.
And Helen, who won a bronze medal with Team GB at the most successful Games in modern times, tweeted: “Had the best day with @AStarSports_UK Can’t remember the last time I enjoyed sport so much! #enjoysportforlife.”
The memorable day, organised by A-Star Sports to ensure that the legacy of the London 2012 Olympics is being passed on to the next generation, was held at Cheshire County Sports Club in Chester, one of the company’s regular venues.
The company has signed up Helen as an ambassador to meet and inspire the children who come to the firm’s classes and holiday clubs as well as interacting with the current and potential franchisees.
The event was attended by coaches and franchisees from A-Star-Sports operations across the UK and Helen was particularly delighted to meet new franchisee Gary Slater, who has given up the world of international banking to devote his time to enhancing the nation’s sporting future.
A-Star Sports co-founder Sharon Bassett said: “Helen has a wonderful personality and she teaches by example. She joined in games with children aged from three to 10 on the day, and she was even treated to some great passes in a game of hockey!
A-Star Sports offers multi-sports coaching for children from two years old to 10, teaching them to play individually, in games with a partner or in teams.
It already has 11 territories throughout the UK and the bfa-affiliated franchise is projecting the establishment of 40 territories in the UK within the next three to four years and has identified an ultimate potential of 240 centres. It has just been included in the 2012 Startups 100.
