Sports Health: A Multidisciplinary Approach
Sports Health: A Multidisciplinary Approach:
An interesting little research summary on the value of a multi-disciplinary approach to sport for younger children. In its conclusion it reports: ‘…intense training in a single sport to the exclusion of others should be delayed until late adolescence to optimize success while minimizing injury, psychological stress, and burnout’.
This is crucial for parents to know, not least because awareness of and experience in other disciplines can really support a wider development and, one thing the science can’t quite measure, is that trying different sports is such good fun for children. Fun and variety are fundamental for longer term choices regarding participation in sports, socially or competitively, into teenage years and beyond. #enjoysportsforlife
