Downing Street and the Small Business Saturday adventure!

For A-Star Sports, Small Business Saturday started out with an ambitious proposal to share 100 business tips on ‘Building your business profile’ with other small businesses via social media.  On hearing back that the proposal had won a place in the Small Business Saturday 100 and would be profiled in the lead up to Saturday 7th December 2013, Sharon and Gary Bassett – co-founders and directors at A-Star Sports – began putting together the eBook that would become ‘Building your business profile – 100 tips’ with tips covering topics such as branding, website, social media, blogging and eBooks, PR, promotions and advertising, events, awards, working together and keeping on top.

On 11th October 2013, @SmallBizSatUK profiled A-Star Sports and spurred on the writing and editing of the 100 tips:

Then came the exciting invitation from Downing Street to an event ‘to celebrate the Downing Street conclusion of the Small Business Saturday Bus Tour and the success of our GREAT British small businesses’.  Gary represented A-Star Sports and took the eBook first to the final stop of the Bus Tour in Brixton and then to Downing Street itself.

@SmallBizSatUK continued to support us with mentions and retweets, resulting in reaching 89,600+ accounts and making over 128,000 impressions.

Our ‘Free resources’ page also reached it’s highest analytics position – in the top 4 pages on our site.  Now that’s valuable support for valuable content!

As a result of this activity we’ve also made a lot of new connections, as well as bumping into some of our @TheoPaphitis #SBS friends along the way.  This was the first Small Business Saturday event in the UK and we hope it’s the first of many.
